This summer, I wanted a fun, printed maxi skirt. I also happen to really like wrap skirts and dresses because they’re easy to wear and figure flattering. When I saw this pattern, I envisioned the perfect skirt for summer that fit both of these criteria.
Pattern Used:
Pattern Description:
Wrap Skirt with or without ruffle. Four length options include: mini, knee, midi, and maxi. Available in two size ranges: 6-14 and 14-22.
Fabric Used:
Red and black large scale floral print. It’s 100% rayon with a slightly slub texture that gives it a linen look. It’s a light, summer weight fabric and digitally printed. The fabric was purchased from Emmaonesock.
Pattern Comments:
I sewed a size 16 based off the finished garment measurement and it fits well. The only change was taking up about 4″ off the bottom. It’s right above the ground maxi length. I did use the instructions for this project and they were good. It’s a pretty straightforward project that’s easy to sew.
The only thing to note is that it’s a LOT of fabric. It’s basically a circle skirt w/ a long flounce. It’s uses about 4 yards so it’s a lot to cut out and then handle all that fabric in the sewing process. Fabric weight is something you should take into account when choosing the fabric to make this. You also may want to consider how something looks on the wrong side because you’ll see glimpses of it in the flounce as you move. I used a digital print, so the back is white and it’s a big contrast from the front.
Final Thoughts:
Overall, I don’t love it, but I like it. Being 5’4″ and pretty curvy, I find it to be a little full and overwhelming. It would look much better on someone tall and slim. Despite that, it’s still a stylish, comfortable skirt that I enjoy wearing. I might sew it again in one of the shorter lengths.
What kind of skirts are you planning on sewing this summer?
