My daughter was invited to a zebra and pink party. She found a cute zebra skirt but needed a pink top to go with it. She has a specific tank in mind and you know how hard it is to find something when you are specifically searching for it. In times like this, it’s great to have a mom who sews.

Pattern Description
This pattern fits everything she wanted. It’s a modern style tank- cropped length, higher neck, and slightly cutaway armholes. I feel weird saying modern because it’s technically not modern. But it’s modern in the sense that it’s 90’s minimalist style that is having this huge resurgence now.
Pattern Sizing
0-16. The sizing is more traditional RTW. As a bonus, there’s two patterns based on bust size. One version is for a B- cup and another version is for a D-cup and it has a bust dart. My daughter is a C/D, but I used the B-cup version because I didn’t want the bust dart. I used a size 8 on top and blended to a size 6 for the waist.
Fabric Used
Hot pink Rayon/Poly/Lycra jersey from Gail K Fabrics (a local fabric store without a website)
Pattern Comments
It looked exactly like the drawing except my version was more cropped. I cut 5 1/2” off that bottom to have it be the length my daughter wanted. I also just make my own bindings so I didn’t use that part of the pattern. I also wanted to make sure they were a little wider than normal because that’s what my daughter asked for. To add more coverage and opacity to the front, I used double fabric for the front piece. I treated it how you normally do interlining. I just doubled it, and treated it all as I would if it was one layer. As for the instructions, I didn’t use them, but they looked good to me.
I used my coverstitch for the bindings and hem. If you don’t have a coverstitch or serger, it’s still pretty easy to sew knits on the regular sewing machine using a narrow zig zag stitch or triple zig zag for maximum stretch.
Final Thoughts
The Blomma Tank is a great basic that has subtle details that make it a little more modern than most tank patterns. In fact, I like it so much I can see myself making a few more me. I don’t have a skinny, young body anymore so I would have to make it longer and looser in the waist. This is actually how it’s pictured so I’m sure the pattern works that way, too. I also appreciate that this pattern company didn’t use edited photos with very fake body proportions. I ran into that a lot when I was searching for this pattern. Overall, I really love this top and I highly recommend it. So if you’re looking for a cute tank top, head over to Paradise Patterns and grab this awesome freebie!
If you’ve tried this pattern, I’d love to know your thoughts, too. Did you like it as much as I did? Also, what do you think about how the 90’s style is coming back? I’m actually loving it.
